Workers' rights and labor laws are concepts prevalent in the Jewish tradition, and ones that have become increasingly relevant in contemporary Jewish society. The recent events in Postville , Iowa that have aroused so much passion in the community compel us to examine what Jewish sources have to say about workers' rights. Join us for a Beit Midrash with Rabbi Mike Schultz as he explores these sources and how they address this very important issue.

On May 20, we joined Domestic Workers United for a day of lobbying in Albany. Our handful of Uri L’tzedek activists were only some of the dozens of Jews who boarded the busses early that morning to show our solidarity with New York’s domestic workers. As the bus made its way up through the State, each passenger was handed the microphone to briefly explain what had motivated him or her to take the day and travel to Albany. Over and over we heard how fervently Judaism cares about the rights of...

As we reflect upon the meaning of our own freedom, we must open our eyes to the reality that many who live in our midst are still enslaved. Every year, tens of thousands of young women vanish from their everyday lives and are forced by violence into a hellish existence of brutality and prostitution. Human trafficking is one of the world's most abhorrent forms of modern day slavery, and is prevalent in both the United States and Israel. Come and learn about what Jewish texts and traditions have...
